MC tried to cool down the Bruin bats by starting the game with slow pitching, but the strategy backfired. After three consecutive singles by Sebi Cianelli, Jake Verniel, and Ryan Anderson to start the game, Ryan Anderson belted a two-run home run down the left field line to give Blacksburg a quick 4-0 lead. Brad Shelton extended the lead to 5-0 with a solo home run of his own. Singles by Hunter Radford, Justin Snyder, and Jacob Verbrugge plated another run for the Bruins, then Tiquest Terry hit a 2 RBI double to increase Blacksburg's lead to 8-0 after the top of the first inning.
MC quickly responded, hitting two home runs in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 8-5 after one inning.
Blacksburg was unable to reach base in the second, but MC stayed hot. They scored five more runs to take the lead 10-8 after two innings.
The score stayed 10-8 for the next two innings until the top of the fifth. Andrew Roberson singled to left field and later scored on a passed ball to draw the Bruins within one run at 10-9. Jared Madigan then drew a walk and stole second and third base, but was stranded at third and unable to score the game-tying run. The Bruins trailed 10-9 in the middle of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, the MC bats woke up. Uncharacteristic defensive miscues by the Bruins led to eight runs for MC. It was a lead that Blacksburg could not overcome, and the game ended with MC winning 18-9.
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Andrew Roberson and Ryan Anderson who each had two hits. Roberson also led the scoring with 2 runs.
Pitching for Blacksburg were Jake Verniel, Sebi Cianelli, and Jared Madigan.
Blacksburg finished the tournament as District co-runner up, and received individual and team trophies.
