The Bruins jumped out to an early lead. The first three Blacksburg batters, Sebi Cianelli, Jake Verniel, and Andrew Roberson, all hit doubles to start off the bottom of the first inning. All three eventually scored, and so did Jared Madigan who later reached on an error and was scored by an RBI single by Brad Shelton. After the first inning, Blacksburg led 4-1.
After holding Christiansburg to no runs in the top of the second, Blacksburg added another run to their lead. Jacob Verbrugge led off with a single up the middle, and later scored on an RBI single by Sebi Cianelli. After two innings, the score was 5-1 Blacksburg.
The lead was short lived as Christiansburg battled back in the third inning and scored four runs to tie the game. After three innings, the score was 5-5.
The fourth inning saw no runs scored by either team. In the fifth inning, both teams scored a single run. Sebi Cianelli reached base on a fielder's choice, and scored on an hard hit RBI single by Jake Verniel. After five innings, the score was tied 6-6.
Neither team could get any runners on base in the sixth, and the game went to extra innings.
In the top of the seventh, Christiansburg built a 9-6 lead, and it was up to the Bruins to battle back. Blake Davis started off the inning with a walk. After an RBI single by Sebi Cianelli and RBI double by Jake Verniel, the Bruin rally fell short.
Blacksburg was led offensively by Sebi Cianelli and Jake Verniel, each of whom had three hits. Pitching for Blacksburg was Brad Shelton, Sebi Cianelli, and Jake Verniel.
The Bruins face Pulaski East tonight at 6pm in an elimination game.
