The Blacksburg Minors kept the bats rolling, while solid pitching and good defense enabled the Bruins to cruise to a 13-1 win over Christiansburg.
Blacksburg jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the 1st, scoring 5 runs to make the score 5-0. After Luke Goforth drew a lead off walk, the Bruins got hits by Cole Epperley, Davis Roberson, Wesley McCoy, Jacob Lucas, Grant Johnston (double) and Craig Weaver.
Christiansburg scored one run in the bottom of the 1st, which would be their only run of the game, making the score 5-1.
Blacksburg added two more runs in the top of the 2nd to make the score 7-1. Matt Freel hit a triple. Christian Vance drew a big walk with one out. With 1st and 3rd, Vance stole 2nd to put runners and 2nd & 3rd. Colin Collver then had a perfect sac bunt down the first base line, scoring Freel. Ben Freel then had a single RBI to score Vance.
In the bottom of the 2nd, starting pitcher Grant Johnston struck out the side.
Neither team would score in the 3rd inning.
Blacksburg added one run in the top of the 4th. With two outs, Ben Freel drew a walk, and then Cole Epperley hit a RBI double, scoring Freel.
In the bottom of the 4th, a Christiansburg runner reached via a single, but was picked off at first base by Catcher Ben Freel, thus stopping any potential rally.
In the top of the 5th, Luke Goforth, Wesley McCoy, and Jacob Lucas each had doubles, and Cordell Croy had a two RBI single. The Bruins added 5 more runs to make the final score 13-1.
Cordell Croy pitched the 4th and 5th innings, striking out 4 and surrendering just two hits. Starter Grant Johnston pitched the first three innings, and had 5 Ks, and scattered 3 hits.
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Wesley McCoy who had a double and two singles. Cole Epperley, Jacob Lucas, and Grant Johnston each had a double and a single.
Craig Weaver, Cordell Croy, and Cole Epperley each had two RBIs.
