Ryan Anderson leads Bruins with 4 hits and 4 runs scored

Bruins start hot and never look back.

In the top of the first inning, Jake Verniel singled and later scored to give Blacksburg an early 1-0 lead. With two outs, the Bruin bats came alive.  After consecutive singles by Ryan Anderson and Jared Madigan, Brad Shelton belted a 3-run home run over the centerfield fence.  Three more singles by Hunter Radford, Blake Davis, and Justin Snyder pushed across two more runs to give the Bruins a 6-0 lead.  Pulaski started off the bottom of the first inning with a single by Jordan Lytton.  Lytton was then thrown out trying to steal second base by catcher Blake Davis.   Two more quick outs ended the inning with Blacksburg ahead 6-0.

Tiquest Terry started off the second inning with a walk and later scored to give the Bruins another run.  A home run in the bottom of the second inning by Andrew Lowe kept Pulaski East within striking distance of the Bruins after two innings, 7-1.

The Bruins continued to stretch their lead in the third inning.  The inning started with three consecutive singles by Ryan Anderson, Jared Madigan, and Brad Shelton, all three of whom later scored after singles by Justin Snyder and Sebi Cianelli.  Pulaski pushed across one run in the bottom of the third to make the score 10-2 Bruins after three innings.

The Bruins kept the pressure on in the fourth when the first three batters of the inning, Andrew Roberson, Ryan Anderson, and Jared Madigan all reached base and later scored.  Two more runs by Pulaski in the bottom of the fourth made the score 13-4 after four innings.

Blacksburg put away Pulaski in the fifth inning. Justin Snyder and Sebi Cianelli led off the inning with walks.  Jake Verniel then singled, and Andrew Roberson reached base on an error.  Ryan Anderson then singled, followed by a deep fly-ball double by Brad Shelton down the left field line.  Jacob Verbrugge then reached based on an error and later scored thanks to an sacrifice RBI by Austin Nickle to make the score 20-4 Blacksburg.  Pulaski failed to score in the bottom of the fifth, and the game was ended.

The starting pitcher for Blacksburg was Jake Verniel, who threw two innings and gave up one run.  Jacob Verbrugge pitched the third and fourth innings, and Brad Shelton closed out the game by pitching the fifth.

The Bruins were led offensively by Ryan Anderson who had four hits, and scored four times.  Jake Verniel, Jared Madigan, and Justin Snyder had multiple hits.  Madigan and Shelton both scored three runs.  Every player on the Bruins either scored a run or drove in a run. The twenty runs scored by the Bruins was a total team effort.

Blacksburg advances to play Christiansburg tomorrow night at 8pm in a battle of the winners bracket finals.
