The Blacksburg MS got off to a good start by sweeping cross town rival Christiansburg in a DH, 9-0 and 11-1.
In the first game, Adam Linkous pitched two innings, giving up one hit and was the winning pitcher. Thomas Hughes pitched in relief for two hitless innings, and gave up on walk. Morgan McCoy closed the final inning, giving up one hit.
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Morgan McCoy, who went 2-3 and Tyler Davis who had a hit and two RBIs. Jake McCoy reached base three times via walk, HBP, and an error and stole a base each time.
In the second game, Blacksburg defeated the Demons 11-1, led by Jake Verniel and Morgan McCoy, both hitting a double and a single. Jake McCoy, Tyler Davis, Aaron Lucas, Jacob Sparrow, and Andrew Roberson all added one hit each.
Jake McCoy started the game and pitched two innings, giving up one hit and one run, and was the winning pitching of record. Ethan Goforth pitched in relief for three innings of shutout baseball, giving up just one hit and no walks.
Head Coach Brian Davis said he "was very proud of the defensive effort, with only 3 errors in 10 innings of play and the team turned three double plays. Offensively, we were very aggressive, bunting many times for hits, and stealing a bunch of bases." Davis added that pitching was great, giving up just one walk in two games and given all the recent rain and indoor practicing, we played about as well as we could have."
