In the 4th inning, Christiansburg tied the game 1-1.
In the top of the 5th inning, Blacksburg would bat around and break the game open by scoring four runs. Andrew Roberson would get things started with a single, followed by a Shelton single, and Hal Hughes walked. Jacob Nottingham cleaned off the bases with an double. Bryce Nicolau then doubled and Jake Verniel doubled to score Nicolau.
In the 6th inning, the Bruins would add two more runs to make the score 7-2. Roberson singled, Shelton walked, and Nottingham doubled to score both players.
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Jacob Nottingham who went 3/4 with 5 RBI. Grayson Shelton reached base all three times he was up, going 2/2, with an RBI, and a walk. Jake Verniel and Andrew Roberson both went 2/3. Verniel had two doubles and a RBI, while Roberson had two singles and scored two runs.
Defensively, Blacksburg had several big plays. In the 1st inning, Jake Verniel made a diving catch to rob Christiansburg of a hit and prevent a run from scoring. In the 4th after Christiansburg had scored a run, a Nottingham (RF) to Roberson(1B) to Nicolau (C) relay nailed a runner at the plate to stall a Blue Demon rally. In the 6th, with a Christiansburg runner on and no outs, Hughes (SS) and Roberson (1B) turned a double play for two quick outs to kill a potential late game rally by Christiansburg.
Blacksburg advances to the O-Zone Championship game on Thursday vs Montgomery County. The winner advances to the Dixie Youth State Tournament @ Madison Heights, VA.
