Teams will play again on Wednesday

A strange night unfolded at Shelor Motor Mile Park on Tuesday.  The 6pm game between Radford and Montgomery County took nearly four hours to complete, thus causing the 8pm game between Christiansburg and Blacksburg to not start until almost 10pm.  The night cap was filled with lots of drama as Christiansburg outlasted the Bruins in 8 innings, in a game that didn't end until after midnight.

Adam Linkous pitched 7 complete innings and held Christiansburg in check most of the night, scattering eight hits.

Christiansburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead on 4 hits.  Blacksburg responded with two runs in the 2nd.  After a Jack Madigan walk, Jake Verniel singled and Linkous drove Madigan home with a RBI single. Verniel stole home on a passed ball for the second run.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd inning.

In the 4th inning, Blacksburg picked up another run to make the score 4-3.  Madigan, Verniel, and Andrew Roberson all singled and Hal Hughes would drive home Madigan with an RBI single.

In the 5th inning, Blacksburg scored two runs to take the lead 5-4. Ethan Goforth led the inning off with a triple to the fence.  Bryce Nicolau walked and Goforth stole home.  Linkous responded with his second RBI single of the night, scoring Nicolau.

In the 6th, Christiansburg would push a run across to tie the game 5-5 at the end of regulation play.

In the top of the 7th inning, Nicolau and Madigan both reached base after being hit by a pitch.  Verniel safely bunted to reach first.  Linkous hit his third RBI single, scoring Nicolau.

In the bottom of the 7th, Christiansburg would tie the game via an unearned run.  In the bottom of the 8th with two outs and a runner on third base, the Blue Demons would score another unearned run to win.

Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Adam Linkous with three singles and three RBI.  Jake Verniel added three singles and scored one run.  Grayson Shelton had two singles.

Blacksburg plays Christiansburg tonight @ 6pm and the winner faces Montgomery County on Wednesday for the O-Zone Championship.
