The following was read introducing the Mayor of Christiansburg, D. Michael Barber, who was invited to throw out the first pitch at the 2014 District 3 Dixie Youth All-Star Tournament.
At this time, we would like to welcome to the field the District 3 Dixie Youth Baseball Director, Don Gresh, and the Mayor of Christiansburg, D. Michael Barber as he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the District 3 Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament. Mayor Barber is a lifelong resident of Christiansburg that has dedicated himself to the community in many capacities. The Mayor has been a very instrumental leader within the Town of Christiansburg and its Parks and Recreational activities. He was the driving force behind hosting the first ever Dixie Baseball World Series here in the Town of Christiansburg. Since that time the Town of Christiansburg has hosted various tournaments and World Series events and has become to be known as the “Town where Champions are Crowned”. Mayor Barber has served 12 years on Christiansburg’s Town Council and most recently this year was elected as the Mayor of Christiansburg. At this time, Mayor D. Michael Barber will start off this Dixie Youth District Tournament by throwing a strike with his ceremonial first pitch.
Thank you Mayor Barber, for your continuous efforts and support of the many parks and recreational activities that are hosted here within the Town of Christiansburg. You have made Christiansburg, Virginia known as the ONLY Place to Play.
