The Blacksburg Minor All-Stars recovered on Sunday by beating the Pulaski West All-Stars 23-1 in just two and a half innings via the fifteen run rule (after 3 innings).
Bennett Shealor took the mound for Blacksburg and he retired the side in consecutive order via three strike outs.
In the bottom of the 1st, Blacksburg would score eight runs to jump out to a big lead early in the game. Lead off hitter, Eli Sterling, reached base on a infield error, and the Brett Babcock singled to advance Sterling to 3B. After an out, Bennett Shealor tripled to right center field, scoring both Sterling and Babcock (2-0). Raymond Ladd then singled, scoring Shealor (3-0). After another out, Dustin Chermak singled, advancing Ladd to 3B. Ladd scored on a wild pitch (4-0). Conner Deane drew a walk and then Brady Semtner hit a two RBI single to center field, scoring Chermak and Deane (6-0). Jordy Raboteau singled to center field , scoring Semtner (7-0). Raboteau worked himself around the bases on passed balls and eventually scored a wild pitch (8-0). A strike out ended the inning for Blacksburg.
Shealor pitched the 2nd inning for Blacksburg and faced just three batters. After an initial walk, Shealor forced a ground out, struck out the next batter, and then Conner Deane threw out a player stealing.
The Blacksburg Minors would break the game completely open in the top of the 2nd, scoring 15 runs to extend their lead to 23-0. Manny Marrufo led off with a walk and then Eli Sterling drew a walk. Babcock reached on a fielder’s choice, advancing both runners one base and loaded the bases. Marrufo scored on a passed ball (9-0) and then Sterling did as well (10-0). Tate Harrison then singled, scoring Babcock (11-0). Shealor drew a walk and then Harrison scored on a passed ball (12-0). Raymond Ladd doubled, scoring Shealor (13-0). After an out, Chermak singled to right field, scoring Ladd (14-0). Deane then hit a double, advancing Chermak to 3B. Semtner singled, scoring Chermak and Deane (16-0). Back to the top of the order again, Sterling reached on an error and the Babcock doubled to left field, scoring Semtner (17-0). Harrison reached first base via an error, scoring Serling (18-0) in the process and advancing Babcock to 3B. Marrufo doubled to center field, scoring Babcock (19-0) and advancing Harrison to 3B. Sean Asbrand then reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Harrison (20-0) and advancing Marrufo to 3B. VandeVord drew a walk to load the bases and after an out, Deane singled to left field, scoring Marrufo (21-0) and re-loaded the bases for Blacksburg. Semnter singled, scoring Asbrand (22-0) and re-loaded the bases. Sterling reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring VandeVord (23-0). A fly out ended the inning for Blacksburg.
Raymond Ladd was inserted to pitch for Blacksburg, and he struck out the first two batters. A Pulaski West batter reached on an error, which would have ended the game. After a walk, a player scored on a passed ball. Ladd struck out the next batter to end the game for Blacksburg.
Bennett Shealor earned the win on the mound for Blacksburg, pitching two innings. He did not allow a hit, struck out four of the six batters he faced and walked one.
Offensively, Blacksburg had 15 hits and was led by Brady Semnter, who was 3/3. Raymond Ladd, Dustin Chermak, and Conner Deane were each 2/2. Bennett Shealor was 1/1. with a triple. Brett Babcock was 2/4. Tate Harrison, Manny Marrufo, and Jordy Raboteau each had a hit. Eli Sterling and Brett Babcock each scored 3 runs.
With the win, Blacksburg will now face Montgomery County on Monday at 6 pm at Harkrader Complex in Christiansburg.
