Blacksburg Middle Drops DH to Christiansburg

Bruins Held to Just 4 Hits on the Day

 

 
The Blacksburg Middle School team played Christiansburg in a double header at Harkrader and the Blue Demons came away with two hard fought victories.
 
In the first game, Blacksburg’s Luke Goforth was HBP and Chris Wysocki hit a single to put two runners on with no outs.  However, a double play ball and a ground out ended the opportunity for he Bruins.  In the bottom half of the inning, Christiansburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead on four singles.  
 
Blacksburg was held hitless until the top of the 4th when Chris Wysocki singled.  However, he was stranded.
 
Craig Weaver singled to lead off the top of the 5th, and then Grant Johnston reached on fielder’s choice, which forced Wysocki out at 2B.  Back-to-back ground outs ended the inning for Blacksburg as Christiansburg held on for the 1-0 victory.
 
Wesley McCoy pitched the entire game for Blacksburg and scattered six hits and giving up just one run, which was earned.  He struck out four batters and walked two. 
 
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Chris Wysocki who was 2/3.  Craig Weaver had the only other hit for Blacksburg.  
 
In the second game of the double header, Blacksburg’s hitting woes continued as they were only able to garner one hit, a hit by Grant Johnston in the top of the 4th.
 
Christiansburg scored one run in the bottom of the 1st, three runs in the bottom of the 2nd, and a run in the bottom of the 3rd.  The game ended early due to a time limit established before the game started.  
 
Austin Nickle started on the mound for Blacksburg and pitched 1.1 innings, giving up just 2 hits.  He walked 3 batters and struck out one Blue Demon.  Grant Johnston pitched 1.2 innings for Blacksburg, scattering 3 hits and giving up one earned run.  He had one strike out and did not walk a batter.  Austin Nickle pitched 1.1 innings, giving up just 2 hits.  He walked 3 batters and struck out one Blue Demon.  
 
With the two losses, the Blacksburg Middle School team record is now 3-4-1.
