The Blacksburg JV team visited historic Kiwanis Field in Salem, VA on Friday, to take on the Salem Spartans JV team.
Seb Cianelli led off the game with a line drive single, but unfortunately, it would prove to be the only hit of the night for the Bruins. Justin Snyder then drew a walk, and Jack Madigan reached on a fielder's choice, but that would be as far as the Bruins would get all night.
Salem picked up two runs in the bottom of the 1st and then another run in the 4th to make the score 3-0.
The only other baserunner Blacksburg would have al night was in the top of the 3rd when Pete Quinn drew a lead off walk. But, the Bruins were retired in order and Quinn was stranded.
CJ Linares pitched four quality innings for Blacksburg, scattering just two hits and not allowing an earned run. Jack Madigan pitched in relief the last two innings and also pitched very well. Madigan only gave up one hit and retired everyone else in consecutive order.
Head Coach Jonathan Hagee said "I was very proud of how CJ Linares threw the ball tonight. Jack Madigan also pitched very well. Our defense all the way around was good and I expect it to stay that way with our momentum. We're a better team than we showed tonight. We've gotten away from our offense and we're gonna work on that hard on Monday. We just have to hit better to win. Once we put it all together, we're gonna be a really tough team to beat each and every game and we'll get there. The players have worked hard and are competing. Sometimes things just don't go your way."
