The Balcksburg O-Zone All-Stars began the District 3 All-Star Tournament vs. the host team, Radford. The Tournament rotates each year to a different site, and this year, is being held in Bissett Park in Radford, VA.
Blacksburg was the visiting team and led off the game by drawing two walks, but lost both runners on steal attempts. The inning ended with a strike out.
Radford’s offense got off to a hot start, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first to take a 7-0 lead.
In the top of the 2nd, Blacksburg bounced back, picking up a run to narrow the score to 7-1. David Bears hit a single and then Jake Duncan drew a walk. Bears would come around to score on a single by Levi Linkous.
Blacksburg’s defense buckled down and held Blacksburg scoreless in the top of the 2nd. Radford would pick up three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd to extend their lead to 10-1.
However, Blacksburg fought back and picked up four runs to cut the lead to 10-5 in the top of the top of the 3rd. With one out, Blacksburg got things started with singles by Blaise Butler and Eric Heinze. A single by Logan Hudson scored Butler. After an out, Chase Keister, Austin Nickle and David Christle all drew walks, which produced the other three runs.
Radford would pick up five more runs to end the game 15-5 via the ten run rule. With the loss, Blacksburg O-Zone moves to the losers bracket and faces Patrick County on Saturday at 10 am.
