Blacksburg Blanks Floyd 10-0 to Advance to Championship Game

Bruins Pound Out 12 Hits while CJ LInares throws a 2 hitter

 

In day two of the Pulaski Jamboree, Blacksburg Middle beat Floyd 10-0 to advance to the Championship game.

In game one, Blacksburg wasted little time getting going, scoring four runs in the top of the 1st.  CJ Linares drew a lead off walk, and advanced himself to 2B and then 3B on passed balls. Justin Snyder followed with a RBI single, scoring Linares.  Ryan Anderson hit a single and then Hunter Radford reached on a FC, scoring Snyder.  Jared Madigan hit a single, advancing Radford to 2B.  Blake Davis reached base on a FC, and then Brad Shelton hit a single, scoring Radford and Davis.  A pop up ended the inning. 

Starting pitcher CJ Linares was very effective right out of the gate, only facing three Floyd batters.  After a lead off single, Ryan Anderson caught a fly ball in RF and made a very alert throw to tag out the runner at 1B.  The next two batters were retired by Linares with a fly ball and ground ball to end the inning.

In the top of the 2nd, the Bruins picked up right where they left off, scoring three more runs to extend their lead to 7-0.  Will Justus led off with a single, and stole 2B.  Davis Roberson drew a walk and stole 2B, after Justus advanced to 3B on a passed ball.  Back to the top of the order, CJ Linares hit a single, scoring Justus while Roberson advanced to 3B.  Linares stole 2B and then Justin Snyder drew a walk.  Ryan Anderson hit a single, scoring Roberson and loading the bases.  After a strike out, and an out via infield fly rule, Blake Davis reached 1B on an error, scoring Linares.  A Bruin runner was tagged out on the bases, ending the inning.

Linares continued his strong outing, retiring the Floyd side in order.

Blacksburg was held scoreless in the top of the 3rd.  Brad Shelton hit a double and Davis Roberson drew a walk, but neither would come around to score. 

In the bottom of the 3rd, Linares retired the lead off batter, but then allowed two consecutive walks.  However, he battled back retired the next two batters to end he inning and any type of scoring threat by Floyd.

In the top of the 4th, Blacksburg plated three more runs to advance their lead to 10-0.  After a strike out, Ryan Anderson reached 1B on a single.  Hunter Radford reached on an error while Anderson advanced to 3B.  Jared Madigan hit a RBI single, scoring Anderson, with Radford advancing to 2B.  Blake Davis hit a single to load the bases.  Brad Shelton flew out to LF, but Hunter Radford tagged up and scored, resulting in a RBI by Shelton.  Chris Wysocki hit a RBI single, scoring Madigan and advancing Davis to 3B.  Wysocki stole 2B, and then Petyon Heavner drew a walk.  A ground out ended the inning. 

Linares closed out the game by facing four batters, giving up just one hit.  On the day, he pitched all four innings, surrendering just two hits, walking two batters, and not giving up any runs.

As a team, Blacksburg pounded out 12 hits and scored 10 runs to beat Floyd 10-0 in a ten run rule shortened game.  Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Ryan Anderson, who was 3/3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  Jared Madigan and Brad Shelton were 2/3, with Shelton having 3 RBIs and Madigan having 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  Both CJ Linares and Will Justus were 1/2 with Linares scoring 2 runs.

With the win, Blacksburg Middle improves their record on the season to 12-6.
