Blacksburg Middle School traveled two hours to Jefferson Forest on Saturday and dropped a double header 5-0 and 3-1.
In the first game, Blacksburg was held to just one hit, a single by Brad Shelton in the 2nd inning. Jefferson Forest jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and then added a run in the bottom of the 3rd and one in the bottom of the 4th to win the game 5-0.
Starting pitcher Brad Shelton only gave up one hit over the two innings he pitched. He walked two and struck out one. Reliever Seb Cianelli pitched one inning, giving up just one hit, walking one, and striking out one batter. Reliever CJ Linares pitched one inning, giving up just one hit, walked two, and struck out one.
In the second game, Jefferson Forest jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring one run in both the bottom of the 1st and 2nd inning.
In the top of the 3rd, Blacksburg responded with a run to cut the lead to 2-1. A bunt single by Jared Madigan got things started, and then Christian Vance sacrificed him to 2B with a perfect bunt. Madigan advanced himself to 3B on a passed ball, and then Seb Cianelli reached 1B on a RBI FC, scoring Madigan.
Forest picked up another run in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 3-1, which would prove to be the final score.
Blacksburg’s pitching was more than good enough to win, but the Bruins had a tough time hitting the slower than usual pitching. Jared Madigan scattered three hits over three innings, while striking out three. CJ Linares pitched the 4th inning, retiring the side in order, and striking out two Forest batters.
With the losses, BMS moves to 3-4 on the season. The Bruins host Christiansburg in a DH on Sunday April 7th.
