The Blacksburg JV baseball team opened their official season vs. the Radford Bobcats. After a slow start at the plate for the Bruins, Adam Linkous led off the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff triple and scored on an error by the pitcher, giving the Bruins the lead 1-0. Jake Verneil continued the rally stealing 3rd base and home. A walk by Roberson, a single by Noble, and a walk by Hughes loaded the bases for Blacksburg with 2 outs. Jacob Nottingham drew a RBI walk, scoring Roberson. A single by Jack Madigan drove in Sam Noble, giving the Bruins a 4-0 lead going into the top of the fifth.
In the top of the 5th, the Bobcats were able to score one run off a couple of hits making the score 4-1.
Jake Verniel was the starting pitcher, making his way through five solid innings, scattering 4 hits, sriking out three, and giving up just one run.
Jack Madigan pitched the last two innings of the game, allowing only one hit, striking out one, and giving up just one walk, as the Bruins got the 4-1 victory over the Bobcats.
Blacksburg accounted for 4 runs off 4 hits. Offensively, the Bruins were led by Adam Linkous, Hal Hughes, Madigan, and Sam Noble. The Bruins also drew 5 walks and stole 5 bases.
Blacksburg JV will make up their Giles game in a DH later in the season.
