In the first game of the 3 way championship series, Christiansburg beat Patrick County 5-0 to advance to the Championship game vs Blacksburg on Thursday @ 6 PM.
Christiansburg wasted little time in getting started, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Jason Duffie led off the game with a single and advanced to 2B on a passed ball. After an out, Dakato Sisson hit a single, and due to some Patrick throwing errors, would advance a base with Duffie and then move to third on a passed ball. Zalen Akers would draw a walk, and then steal 2B with a 1st and 3rd situation. The next batter was retired to end the inning. Duffie, Sisson, and Akers all scored in the inning.
In the bottom of the 1st, McCray Sawyers would get on by error, but could not score. After one complete inning, the score was Christiansburg 3, Patrick-0.
Neither team would score in the 2nd inning, but Garrett Worley did hit a single for Patrick, but was stranded.
In the top of the 3rd, Christiansburg would add a run to push their lead to 4-0. Ryan Shutlz led off the inning by drawing a walk, and then Jake Clemmons reached via an error. A player was caught stealing 3B for the 1st out, and then after an out, Jason Duffie hit a single to score Clemons. Patrick would retire the next Christiansburg batter.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Patrick did not score, but Kelon Penn did draw a walk and was left stranded. After 3 complete innings of play, Christiansburg led Patrick 4-0.
Christiansburg did not score in the top of the 4th, although Zalen Akers did reach by error, but he was stranded.
In the bottom of the 4th, Landon Augustine hit a single after one out, but was stranded.
After 4 complete innings, the score remained 4-0.
In the top of the 5th, Christiansburg would add to their lead by scoring a run to make the score 6-0. Evan Robbins led off the inning with a single, and Brady Kirtner followed with another single. Garrett Kuchan was walked to load the bases. After an out, MJ Hunter hit an RBI single to score Robbins. Patrick retired the next two batters to get out of the jam.
In the bottom of the 5th, Bryson Fulcher led off with a single, then Nick Duncan drew a walk to put runners at 1B and 2B. After a strike out, a Patrick batter hit into a fielder's choice and was thrown out at first, with runners at 3B and 2B, Christiansburg retired the next batter to prevent Patrick from scoring.
Neither team scored in the 6th, and the final score was Christiansburg 5, Patrick County 0.
With the win, Christiansburg advances to the Championship against Blacksburg, who drew the bye the night before.
After the game, Garrett Leftwich was presented with a special District Director's award for bravery and sportsmanship as he was injured in one of the games, but still played, despite having a broken arm.
Patrick County was also presented with their individual Tournament Runner-Up trophies as well as their team Tournament Runner-Up trophy.
