In the nightcap of day two of the Dixie Youth District 3 Tournament, Christiansburg beat Pulaski West 10-6 in a game that dramatically changed tides. The Demons built a 10-1 lead and was a runner on third base away from ending the game early via the 10 run rule, but Pulaski West got the third out before the runner could score and then battled back with 5 runs and forced the game to go the distance.
Pulaski jumped on Christiansburg right out of the gate. A lead off walk by Bubba Clark and then a FC by Logan Burchett put a runner on base. Burchette would move himself to 2B on a passed ball and scored on a RBI single by Punky Foster. Marty Martin drew a walk but he and Foster were stranded.
In the bottom of the 1st, Christiansburg quickly responded with 4 runs to pull ahead 4-1. After a lead off out, Evan Robbins hit a single and moved himself around on a passed ball and a throwing error. A RBI single by Dekota Sisson would score Robbins. Zalen Akers hit a single, followed by a MJ Hunter single. Sisson scored on Akers hit due to a throwing error at 3B, and Hunter scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Seth Walker.
Pulaski hit a dry spell and did not score in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th innings. Cameron Crawford had a single in the 2nd and Elijah Simpson drew a walk, but both were stranded. Logan Burchette and Punky Foster drew walks in the 3rd, but both were left on base and did not score. In the 4th, Pulaski went three up and three down as Christiansburg's Jason Duffie struck out the side.
Christiansburg did not score in the 2nd, going three up and three down. In the bottom of the 3rd, Jake Clemmons drew a lead off walk, followed by fielder's choice by Tripp Compton. Two consecutive singles by Jason Duffie and Evan Robbins would score Compton. After three complete innings, Christiansburg led 5-1.
In the bottom of the 4th, Christiansburg added four more runs to push the score to 10-1. MJ Hunter led off with a single and scored on a RBI double by Seth Walker. Walker scored on a RBI single by Reagan Harris. Brady Kirtner then hit an RBI double to score Harris. Garrett Kachan hit a single. After two outs, Dekota Sisson hit a single and moved himself around on Pulaski throwing errors. He would score on a single by Zalen Akers. With two outs and a Christiansburg runner on 3B, Pulaski secured the last out to prevent the game ending early via the 10 run rule.
In the top of the 5th, Pulaski got a rally going. Cameron Crawford led off the inning with a single, followed by Drew Dalton drawing a walk. Bubba Clark was HBP to load the bases and then Logan Burchette hit a RBI single, scoring Crawford and Dalton. Punky Foster hit a single scoring Clark. Alex Parmalee drew a walk and James Jackson was HBP. Pulaski scored 5 runs, but stranded two base runners and after 5 and a half innings, Christiansburg led 10-6.
In the bottom of the 5th, lead off hitter Seth Walker and Reagan Harris hit back-to-back singles, but were stranded when Pulaski retired the next three batters in order.
In the top of the 6th, Christiansburg recorded two quick Pulaski outs, but then Punky Foster and Alex Parmalee both drew walks to put two runners on. However, the next Puaski batter struck out, ending the game.
Christiansburg's Seth Walker got the win, pitching two innings, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 2 Pulaski batters.
With the win, Christiansburg advances to play Patrick County @ 8pm on Monday in the finals of the winner's bracket.
With the loss, Pulaski East drops to the loser's bracket and will face their county brethren, Pulaski West, @ 4 PM on Tuesday.
