Great pitching duel spoiled by errors

Blacksburg visited it's arch rival on Friday, the Christiansburg Blue Demons.  BHS got on the board in the top of the 1st when John Hamborsky reached on an infield error.  John Hinson walked and both runners moved up on a throwing error.  Tyler Barry's infield grounder scored Hamborsky.

CHS got three runs in the bottom of the 1st.  With one out Justin Bowler struck out but advanced to 1st on a passed ball.  After a walk to Alex Dunn, Kevin Thompson doubled scoring Bowler and Dunn.  A BHS infield error led to another run.

Blacksburg closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the 2nd when Alex Shimozono led off with a walk and scored on Colin Ball's double.  In the bottom of the 2nd, two BHS infield errors and a sac fly by Justin Bowler gave CHS a 4-2 lead.

Cburg extended the lead to 6-2 in the 5th as Justin Bowler led off with a single and Alex Dunn hit an opposite field double.  With runners on second and third another infield error and a fielder's choice gave Cburg a 6-2 lead.  BHS scored their final run in the top of the 6th as Casey Herman led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Alex Shimozono's sac fly.

Head Coach Jim Shockley said, "Today our defensive mistakes killed us.  Fraley (complete game, 10 k's, 2 walks, 5 hits, and only 2 earned runs) gave us every opportunity to win.  We botched several routine plays and Cburg took advantage.  We do not hit well enough as a team yet to overcome giving up 5 unearned runs.  Our defense is usually a strong point but not today."
