The Bruins got off to quick start against Patrick Henry at their new field. In the top of the first, Ethan Goforth led off the game with a walk. Sam Montgomery reached base by a Patriot error, and a wild pitch moved Goforth and Montgomery to 2nd and 3rd. Tyler Davis opened up the scoring with Sac Fly to center to score Goforth.
The Bruins played strong defense behind the starting Pitcher Caden Croy in the bottom of the 1st. Only 1 hit was allowed, and a designed 1st and 3rd defensive play by Coach Weller got them out of the inning allowing no runs.
The Bruins broke the game open in the top of the second. Jake Schirmer and Caden Croy led the inning of with singles. They moved to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball and Jacob Sparrow hit a sacrifice to the 2nd baseman to score Schirmer. Dylan Turman walked and Ethan Goforth hit a single to the left to drive in Croy. Morgan McCoy then singled to push Turman across the plate. The Bruins ended the inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. They held the Patriots scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to lead 4-0.
The next few innings were highlighted by great pitching and good defense by both the Bruins and the Patriots. In the top of the 7th, the Bruins threatened with Goforth reaching on an error and a single by McCoy. But they were both stranded on base. The game ended 4-0 with the Bruins gaining their 2nd road win of the year.
Caden Croy was the winning pitcher for the Bruins, going 6 strong innings and allowing only 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Morgan McCoy got the save by closing the game in the 7th. The Bruins were led offensively by McCoy with 2 hits, while Croy, Goforth and Shirmer each had one hit.
JV plays again Friday evening at home against Lord Botetourt. The first pitch is set for 4:30pm.
