Spring 2002 Baseball Season Summary

The Blacksburg Baseball Association provided for regular season play in two age divisions during the Spring 2002 season, which began in April and went through June. The original 11-12 year-old division finished its second Spring season. The newly formed 9-10 year-old division completed its first season. Each age division fielded two teams. The Blacksburg teams competed against each other, and against teams from Christiansburg, Shawsville, and Radford. Teams played a total of at least 15 regular season games. The 11-12 year olds also played in some local and regional tournaments.

After the regular season both divisions fielded all-star teams. The 11-12 all-star team reached the semifinals in the District 3 Dixie Youth Baseball Majors Tournament held in Stuart, Virginia, where it was eliminated by the tournament winning Patrick County team. The 9-10 all-star team won the District 3 Dixie Youth Baseball AAA Tournament held in Woolwine, Virginia, and reached the semifinals in the Virginia Dixie Youth Baseball AAA Tournament held in Madison Heights, Virginia, where it was eliminated in a semi-final game by the tournament winning team from Buckingham County (which represented Virginia in the Dixie Youth AAA World Series in Pascagoula, Mississippi).
