The Blacksburg Minors beat Radford 11-7 to advance to the Championship game vs Pulaski on Thursday.
Pulaski scored first in the top of the 1st to take the lead 1-0. But, the Bruins wasted little time in responding, scoring five runs in the first inning. The first five batters all scored for Blacksburg and the inning was highlighted by a double by Cole Epperley and a two RBI triple by Ben Freel.
In the 2nd inning, Grant Johnston reached base after being hit by a pitch, and scored on a RBI fielder's choice by Ben Freel. Blacksburg led 6-1 after two innings.
Radford scored three runs in the 3rd to make the score 6-4.
Blacksburg would extend their lead in the fourth inning, picking up five more runs to make the score 11-4. Davis Roberson hit an RBI double while Dom Hughes and Jacob Lucas both singled.
Radford would add a run in the 5th and two in the 6th to make the score 11-7.
The Bruin minors showed lots of defensive resolve in leaving Radford with bases loaded in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings.
Grant Johnston was the winning pitcher, going four strong innings while Dom Hughes pitched in relief for the 5th & 6th inning.
Offensively, Blacksburg was led by Jacob Lucas who was 2/3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Jared Madigan added two hits and two runs while Ben Freel, Davis Roberson and Dom Hughes all scored two runs.
Blacksburg advances to the Minors Championship game vs Pulaski on Thursday @ 6pm. The winner advances to the Dixie Youth State Tournament in Madison Heights, Va.
