The Blacksburg 11-12 O-Zone team rallied from behind in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat defending tournament champion & World Series qualifier Christiansburg.
Christiansburg led off the game with 2 runs and Blacksburg responded with 1 run in the bottom of the first inning. After an Ethan Goforth walk, Bryce Nicolau tripled to score Goforth.
Christiansburg picked up another run in the top of the 2nd while the Bruins added two of their own to tie the score 3-3. Jake Verniel doubled and scored on a past ball. Grayson Shelton had a sacrifice to score Adam Linkous, who reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Both teams held each other scoreless in the 3rd inning. Christiansburg added a run in the top of the 4th to go up 4-3.
In the top of the 5th inning, Christiansburg added another run to go up 5-3. Blacksburg picked up a run in the bottom of the inning on a very heady play by Grayson Shelton. With Shelton on 3rd base, Christiansburg tried to pick off Hal Hughes on first. With Hughes in a run down, Shelton stole home to make the score 5-4.
Adam Linkous, who pitched the entire game, retired the side in the top of the 6th. Down 5-4 In the bottom of the 6th, Ethan Goforth led off with a double. Bryce Nicolau walked and Jacob Nottingham singled to score Goforth, which tied the game at 5-5. With no outs, Christiansburg intentionally walked Jake Verniel to load the bases. Adam Linkous had a infield single and Nicolau was safe on a game ending play at the plate.
Ethan Goforth led Blacksburg with a single and a double, while Adam Linkous had two singles.
Adam Linkous was the winning pitcher, striking out five over six innings.
Blacksburg advances to the next round at 8pm on Monday.
