Virginia Goes 1-1 in First Two Days of World Series

August 7, 2007, Madison Heights, VA --- The Blacksburg 9-10 All-Stars, Virginia's representative in the AAA World Series, went 1-1 in its first two days of World Series play. On the opening day, Virginia lost 12-0 to Alabama, who has won the last four World Series. The Alabama team is from Pratville and is widely considered to be one of the top youth programs in the country. In day two, Virginia beat Florida 4-2. Thomas Hughes pitched all six innings and held Florida to two hits, both of which came in the top of the 6th. Virginia scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third. Offensively, Virginia was led by Adam Linkous and Ethan Goforth who both had key hits in the third to drive in runs. Linkous's RBI was the first of the game, and Goforth's hit was with bases loaded. Virginia advances to play the loser of Tennessee and Louisiana. Salem's 11-12 year old team, Virginia's Majors representative, lost 8-0 to North Carolina and is eliminated. Salem failed to score a run in World Series play.
