Blacksburg beats Halifax 7-3 in finals of winners bracket
James Moyer Sports Complex, Salem VA, Monday, July 23, 2007 ---
Blacksburg played in the finals of the winners bracket Monday, defeating
Halifax County 7-3 to advance to the State semi-finals. Blacksburg is
the only remaining unbeaten team while Halifax, Salem, and Charlotte
County all have one loss. Blacksburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in
the second, then added two more runs in third, and three in the
fifth. Caden Croy, Hal Hughes, Adam Linkous, Morgan McCoy, and Thomas
Hughes all pitched for Blacksburg. At the plate, Blacksburg was led by
Thomas Hughes who went 2 for 3 with a double and single. He scored two
runs, and had a stolen base. Thomas also pitched the last two outs in
the top of the 6th to preserve the win. Andrew Guy went 2 for 3 and had
2 RBIs. After the game, Manager Mike Goforth said, "I'm very proud of
everyone on this team. They all do their job. Some were asked to do
things tonight that they aren't used to doing. The fan support continues
to amaze me, but we still have work to do." Blacksburg plays Salem
tonight at 8PM at Moyer Field. Halifax plays Charlotte County at 6PM in
the opener.
