Blacksburg advances to District Championship game with 9-8 victory over Christiansburg!
Randolph Park, July 10, 2007 --- In front of a large crowd at Randolph Park, the Blacksburg
Minors All-Star team withstood a furious Christiansburg rally which tied the game at 8, and
then scored the game winning run in the top of the fifth inning and held on to advance to the
Championship of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 3 tournament. Blacksburg jumped to the lead
with a six run 1st inning and scored two more runs in the second to lead the game at one point
8-2. However, a very good Christiansburg team held Blacksburg scoreless while rallying to tie
the game. John Hinson came on to pitch and was able to stop the Christiansburg rally. In the fifth, Ethan Goforth scored Eli Straw with a linedrive to give the Blacksburg
team a one run lead. Thomas Hughes then came on to pitch the fifth and sixth inning allowing
only one baserunner and the Blacksburg team held on to advance to the Championship game tonight
against Patrick County. Patrick County advanced to the Championship by virtue of a 11-7
victory against Montgomery County. Blacksburg has yet to lose in the tournament and with a
victory tonight, they will win the District Championship and advance to the Virginia State Tournament.
Patrick County has one loss and would need to beat Blacksburg twice to claim the District Title.
